Selena Gomez Speaks Up Against Bullying
For years famous Hollywood actors and actresses like Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, and Demi Lovato have been speaking up and telling the world how they were bullied in school. Now Selena Gomezjoins their plight, making it clear that everyone is susceptible to torment, despite beauty, talent, or good-heartedness.
In an interview with the New York Post, Selena, like many other young stars, explains how she was verbally assaulted by her classmates for daring to be different-- for aspiring to be a successful actress.

"I was definitely picked on in school, I was definitely made fun of for being in the industry," the now 18 year old says, but she does say that she “didn’t have it as bad as it is now" for kids.

Homeschooling "did help for a minute, but then I got into this industry, and it kind of came back up again," she explains.

However, her current bullying isn’t initiated by immature children...Now, "I get criticized by adults who say awful things about me on the Internet, things that affect me that I try not to read," she says, venting about all of the ridiculous rumors that have been spread about her over the years.

This issue does not only hinder the rich and famous, but it plagues countless kids around the world every day. So, no wonder this is a recurrent theme in the hit Disney show, “Wizards of Waverly Place,” in which Gomez stars. The show’s biggest audience pool is that of the most predisposed crowd of bullies and bullied: tweens.

An episode in the upcoming season, which premiers November 12th, will address this very issue when Selena’s TV younger brother played by Jake T. Austin, has to overcome bullies in his own school!

Bearing in mind that the series is a comedy, Gomez explains, "It's something that we've addressed in a lighter way . . . we can't be that dark on our show."

However, in the core of shooting the fourth season of the show, it is not entirely clear if a fifth season will ensue. Gomez points out that, “…our characters are getting older -- technically my older brother on the show [David Henrie] should be in college, and I should be in my senior year [of high school]"
"We're all growing up, so I'm not quite sure where the show would go. I would really just hope that the show would end on a strong note and not just be something that we would piece together.

In the mean time, Selena looks forward to shooting the new “Wizards” TV movie as well as her international tour to promote her second CD!

Selena says she would also jump at the opportunity for guest starring roles in several hit shows! "I would love to guest on 'The Big Bang Theory,' "she dishes. "I absolutely love that show, and everyone on it is so talented. 'Mad Men' would be really fun – my mom loves that show."

Selena is now officially an adult, but she expresses that there is no rush for her to truly grow up. She explains, "I turned 18, but I feel 15…my heart is still very young . . . I've always been very independent, but I don't think I'm ready to leave the house or do anything dramatic that normal 18-year-olds would do."
