MTV Names Katy Perry Their Artist of the Year!
Katy Perry has had one successful year! So successful, in fact, MTV named her THE artist of 2011! With a seven-judge panel, the network counted down the top 10 artists that helped shape 2011 into a year that was filled with unforgettable music.
It all began in 2010 when Perry released her second album Teenage Dream that helped her break record after record, even taking over Michael Jackson’s music chart throne.

The star set out in 2011 for her California Dreams tour, entertaining fans night after night all decked out in sparkly attire. It wasn’t until August when she took home the highest MTV honor at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year, thanks to her single Firework. And let's not forget that she was named one of Barbara Walter's most fascinating people this year!
Others on the list included Nicki Minaj at number two, Adele sitting comfy at number three, The Throne took over number four, and Lady Gaga being her Mother Monster-self at number five.
