The Girl from Plainville, an American drama miniseries created for Hulu by Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus, aired for the first time March 29, 2022. This series, strictly a miniseries is not picking up for a season two as of thus far. This series is based on true events regarding the death of Conrad Roy and Michelle Carter’s involvement.

The Girl from Plainville is based on the true and horrific story of Michelle Carter. She is most known for getting charged with the killing of her boyfriend Conrad Roy. In 2014, July 13, police found Conrad dead in his vehicle parked behind a supermarket in his town. His death has ultimately ruled a suicide from inhaling too much carbon monoxide. At first, it was a relatively normal case of a teen who just couldn’t handle life anymore. Though that was not the case at all. After his death, Michelle started messaging his family with very vague texts regarding his death. Though one thing Conrad couldn’t take with him was his cell phone, jam-packed full of messages between him and Michelle.

In The Girl from Plainville, after finding the text messages, they ultimately charged Michelle with involuntary manslaughter. The text messages she sent were absolutely horrific and spoke about the best ways to end your life. Michelle never once discouraged him from doing it, she actually encouraged it. According to phone records, Michelle was on the phone with him at the exact time that he passed away, and she never even alerted the authorities. She even admitted to a friend over text that she encouraged him to get back into his vehicle when he got out.

Since The Girl from Plainville aired, it has received extremely positive reviews. Critics have praised the actors in this series for how well they did at playing out this horrible story.
