The Neighborhood, an American sitcom created for Hulu by Jim Reynold, aired for the first time October 1, 2018. A few months after the first season aired, it renewed for a second season. The second season premiered September 23, 2019. In may of 2020, the series renewed for a third season. The third season aired November 16, 2020. But not to long after the third season aired, it renewed for a fourth season. The fourth season aired September 20, 2021. The series has since renewed for a fifth season, which is on track to air September 19, 2022.
The Neighborhood follows Dave and Gemma Johnson and their kid Grover. Dave is an extremely nice guy who is extremely friendly. Gemma ends up getting offered a principal job in Los Angeles, they decide to move from their hometown of Michigan. After arriving at their beautiful new home that is seemingly perfect they discover they have a skeptical next-door neighbor. His name is Calvin and his wife’s name is Tina. Calvin is wary of any newcomers to the town as he doesn’t want these newcomers to disrupt their block and the culture within it. Whereas Tina decides she wants to give them a chance. Dave and his family start to realize that it may be more difficult for their family to fit into their new neighborhood. So Dave sets out to have a good relationship with his neighbor Calvin, so they can make this new town, their permanent home.
The Neighborhood has received a wide range of mixed reviews. Some watchers of the show claim that they absolutely love it. Whereas some critics state that it definitely has potential, but they did not execute it as well as they could have. They states that the cultural commentary was definitely lacking and could have been much better. Overall the reviews are pretty split down the middle.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 24% with an average rating of 4.31 out of 10, based on 17 reviews. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the series a score of 50 out of 100 based on 8 critics.
