The Dropout

The Dropout is an American Drama series that is currently streamed on Hulu. The show started streaming on Hulu on March 3, 2022. The first three episodes aired first, meaning you could watch them immediately. The following episodes aired on a weekly basis. In total there are currently eight episodes. The Dropout, created by Elizabeth Meriwether, is inspired by a podcast that is hosted by Rebecca Jarvis. This show follows the biotechnology company Theranos and the absolute disgrace they were. The show follows Elizabeth Holms, the company’s owner, and shows the rise and fall of her biotechnology company. Throughout the show, Holm is full of deception and lies all stemming from past experiences in her life. The Dropout shows all the experiences that lead her to this, dating all the way back from her preteens.

The Dropout follows Elizabeth Holms who dropped out of college and claimed that she developed a specific type of blood test that could help and give rapid results for many different health conditions. Holms company gained $9 million in total. She gained all of that money until everyone found out she was a fraud. Eventually, the public found out the extravagant claims were completely false. After it came out that the claims were false, Holms faced very serious criminal charges for fraud. After finding out she was a fraud, her company ultimately collapsed.

Critics have shown a lot of praise for The Dropout. Furthermore, they say the show did an absolutely incredible job showing the life of Holms and that they have portrayed her extremely realistically. Critics also gave the show praise for managing to show all ages of Holm’s life and that they did it in a seamless manner. This show is extremely gripping according to critics, it Will keep you on the edge of your seat.

    In order to close the deal with Wallgreen’s, Elizabeth is in a race with time to fix all the problems with her technology.

    E.6 – “Iron Sisters

    Shocking lies are found out about Elizabeths company, and they start working to build a case against her.

    E.7 – “Heroes

    She begins getting extreme scrutiny from the Wall Street Journal.

    E.8 – “Lizzy

    After the Wall Street Journal, Elizabeth faces a reckoning.

Critical response

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 89% rating based on 88 critic reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10. On Metacritic, the series has a score of 75 out of 100, based on 32 critics.

For Rolling Stone, Alan Sepinwall gave a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Beth Webb of Empire rated the series 4 out of 5 stars. Joyce Slaton of Common Sense Media rated the miniseries 4 out of 5 stars.

Audience viewership

According to Forbes, the miniseries spent one week in Nielsen’s top ten streaming programs from March 7, 2022 to March 13, 2022.
