Ronaldo Hits 600 Million Instagram Followers

History has been made. Christiano Ronaldo, the world’s best non-Messi soccer star has done something Messi can only dream of: get 600 million Instagram followers. The star athlete, who recently transferred on a ludicrous deal to play for the Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassar FC, has yet again blown our minds with his greatness. Not only is he amazing at scoring goals and winning Champions League Cups, but he is also the single best person in history at getting fans to click “follow” on his IG page. In many ways the latter is more impressive than the former.

600 million is a huge number to say the least. We all remember the days when Kylie Jenner dominated the top spot on Instagram, but Kylie is, of course, old news now. Sitting at a measly 398 million followers, Kylie has pretty much no chance of ever catching up to Ronaldo, who is an unstoppable social media force. This is all in spite of his image taking a big hit due to some controversial allegations, and a surprising move to take the Saudi money.

It’s also surprising because Ronaldo doesn’t even really seem to care that much about his Instagram. He posts on it merely as a hobby, and typically doesn’t post more than a couple times a week. Unlike influencers who make their social medias their whole lives, Ronaldo is simply another person who has a God-given ability to induce following. It is the stuff that makes the world of Hollywood Instagrammers envious, and we can feel the anti-Ronaldo rage permeating as we sit here in Hollywood. But soccer, the most international and popular of sports, is simply too powerful an industry to compete with.

All of this begs the question of if Ronaldo can make it to 1 billion followers in the near future. We here at Hollywire think he can — making him the first person on any platform to achieve such a feat. If he opts to take some time to play in China after Saudi Arabia, it is almost certain he will see an influx all the way to the billion marker. It is hard to believe, but it is surely within reach for Ronaldo.

Hitting it will make him likely the greatest person of all time. Surely he is the most famous, and one of the most athletic and good-looking as well. Above all he reminds us that the world is so much bigger than just the US, and that the real way to international fame is to be very international. Perhaps one day Kylie Jenner will learn that, but until she learns to nail a corner kick she will continue to trail the real GOAT of social media: Ronaldo.
